Army ROTC- Is it a Good Idea?

I am a senior at a NYC high school, I just got accepted to RPI in upstate NY. I was awarded a four year, tier 1A army scholarship- basically a full ride. My plan is to go to college, do really well, and then try to join the Army Med Corps. as a doctor. I know I won't be making as much as my peers in the civilian sector but I feel this is a good way to make a difference for my country. Is there anyone out there who has gone down this path or who has been in the armed forces? If you don't mind, I would like to hear your opinions on your years of service?
