Lollipops (not the filled varieties) are great. Hard candies to suck on are good, too, though children are often not patient enough to enjoy those. Powdered candies (the straw kind or the kind you dip a sugar stick into after licking the stick) are more to a kid's liking, as are pressed-powder candies like Sweet Tarts. Avoid the ones that look like pressed-powder candies but turn into gum or chewy candy when chewed. The packages label those very clearly.
