What is a cottage style house with a peaked roof called?

The house is approximately 1300 sq ft and is 1 1/2 stories. It has a fireplace with the chimney showing on the exterior. I think it may be a Sears and Roebuck or other kit house. It was built in 1940. There are several in my city with a similiar design. I searched the S & R archive page on the web, but it isn't shown. Does anyone know if it has a distinct name for the style?
